The Wasted Summer

Metal birds refused to fly
While rain clouds gathered in the sky.
Thirsty plastic grasses rejoiced for a while--
and then... in chorus screamed their drowning cries.

 Downpours fed the mighty dams
and their minuscule cracks grew.
Valiantly they tired to hold in
what would be a torrential flow.

The sea had lost her calm.
Waves tossed themselves in rage.
Mechanical fishes dared not swim--
in the worst summer of the age.
