(Game) Jam Packed Weekend

I've been awake for most part of the weekend. Ate a lot. Drew some. Code some. And had a really awesome time.
What had I been up to? Jamming.

The 2011 Global Game Jam Manila was held last weekend, Jan. 28-30 at UPITTC. I don't know the exact number, but there are way more participants this year than last. And there were even high school students. Cool. Pero mas madami pa ding guys. Ayun, nainterview tuloy kaming girls. What are you doing-- and how does it feel like-- being in a man's  turf?
There were also a lot of great games this year. Personal faves are CubeMania, CatastroRun , Feeding Gui-gui, 42, and of course our very own E(arth)xtinction:) One thing really noticeable with this year's jam is that the graphics and the designs had leveled-up. We are very lucky to have a good artist in our team.  Jammers were also more prepared, and there were fewer unfinished games.

So this weekend we:

1. Ate. A lot. Game dev in 48 hours takes up a lot of energy, so we stock up. Naging suki pa kami ng 8-mcdo. Haha.

2. Slept. A little. A little lang talaga yan. ;)
3. Siyempre, nagcode. At nagdrawing. At nag-research/nagreview. Dahil game dev is more than just programming. Kelangan din ng trigonometry at physics. Haha

Ano nga ba ang isang Game Jam?
Taga-test, ganun. Haha). Angge and Angel were the main artists. At ako? Photographer. Haha. Self-appointed game designer, aka manager. Tipong, "Guillard, pwede bang nagtitilt yung shield? Kaya ba yun? Anong oras mo matatapos?"  Sakin din galing yung mga napakagandang pangalan ng team namin (Easy A, kasi puro kami A, kahit si Gulard. At oo, in reference to the movie yan. Anubah.)  at ng games namin: Pixtinction at E(arth)xtinction. Wooo~

2. Ginaganap siya worldwide. Sabay-sabaw. Gets? Sa UPITTC ang venue dito sa Pinas.

And if you're on a look-out for talents for a project, dito madami.
Award ng aming E(arth)xtinction game: Most Likely to Use an Armaggedon Theme Song.

4. May theme. Eto yung pinakaimportanteng part ng GGJ. All games must adhere to the theme, pero free ka naman to interpret it anyway you want. Tas there'd be pitching session before the actual game dev starts and then participants can choose kung anong idea ang gusto nilang iimplement.

1. Wag masyadong loyal sa Java. Wag magcode from scratch. May tinatawag kasing game engine, teh. Must try Unity next time. Para ganito rin kaastig game namin:

Ay joke. Yung astig na game pala talaga namin yan. Pero mas astig to:

Dreadnaught: Star Killer.

So cool.

So ayun. For next year, try daw namin ang AR using an android phone. O kaya hologram. O kaya...
